Asset Tracking and Temperature Monitoring in Laboratories

In laboratories, indoor positioning and tracking can be used to monitor laboratory samples.

At a Glance

  • Indoor Positioning of Refrigerators: Real-time location tracking of cold storage units.

  • Storage Duration: Continuous monitoring of sample storage times.

  • Storage Temperature Monitoring: Automated temperature tracking for quality compliance.

  • Process Monitoring: End-to-end traceability of sample handling and environmental variables.

Problem Statement

Large laboratories continuously store thousands of samples, where precise storage locations, holding times, and thermal conditions are critical to preventing sample degradation. Furthermore, mechanical or physical stress exerted on sample materials can distort analytical outcomes. Proper preservation and careful transport are therefore vital to ensuring the integrity of laboratory results.

Solution

Sample locations are determined indoors using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons. Location data alongside essential telemetry—including temperature, humidity, shock impact, and last cleaning timestamp—are displayed on an application or centralized dashboard. Additionally, historical measurement data can be retrieved at any time for process auditing.
